Bookstore Romance Day at Flyleaf Books in Durham, NC

August 7, 2019 by ReeseRyan

Bookstore Romance Day at Flylfeaf Books in Durham, NC on Saturday, August 17th

Saturday, August 17th is Bookstore Romance Day. Local booksellers will be celebrating all things romance!

How are you spending the day? I’ll be at Flyleaf Books for the Bookstore Romance Day: A Panel & Social Event with Samantha Chase, Author Karen Booth, and Kianna Alexander. If you’re in North Carolina on August 17th from 5 – 8 PM, be sure to join us at Flyleaf Books. It’s one of my favorite local bookstores.

After the discussion, chat with the authors and booksellers. There will be champagne, fruit, and chocolate. Be sure to explore this wonderful, independent bookstore and discover what makes it so wonderful. If you purchase books by the authors, you can get them signed.

Kianna Alexander

Like any good Southern belle, Kianna Alexander wears many hats: loving wife, doting mama, advice-dispensing sister, and gabbing girlfriend. She’s a voracious reader, an amateur seamstress and occasional painter in oils. Chocolate, American history, sweet tea and Idris Elba are a few of her favorite things. A native of the TarHeel state, Kianna still lives here with her husband, two kids, and a collection of well-loved vintage 80’s Barbie dolls.

Karen Booth

Karen Booth is a Midwestern girl transplanted in the South, raised on ’80s music and repeated readings of Forever by Judy Blume. A married mom of two college-age kids, she is the author of more than 25 steamy contemporary romances, and has been a finalist for RT Magazine’s Series Romance of the Year, RT Magazine’s Gold Seal of Excellence, The Booksellers Best Award, and the National Excellence in Romance Fiction Award. Her books have been translated into seventeen languages.

Reese Ryan

Reese Ryan writes red hot romance with captivating family drama, surprising secrets, and a posse of deliciously-flawed characters. Past president of the Heart of Carolina Romance Writers, a panelist at the 2017 Los Angeles Times Festival of Books and recipient of the 2018 Donna Hill Breakout Author Award, Reese is an advocate for the romance genre and diversity in fiction. A Midwesterner with deep Southern roots, Reese currently resides in semi-small-town North Carolina where she’s an avid reader, a music junkie, and a self-declared connoisseur of cheesy grits.

Samantha Chase

Samantha Chase is a New York Times and USA Today bestseller of contemporary romance that’s hotter than sweet and sweeter than hot. She released her debut novel in 2011 and currently has more than sixty titles under her belt! When she’s not working on a new story, she spends her time reading romances, playing way too many games of Scrabble or Solitaire on Facebook, wearing a tiara while playing with her sassy pug Maylene…oh, and spending time with her husband of 28 years and their two sons in North Carolina.

Author News: Hope to see you in Cary, LA, Atlanta, Greensboro or Durham

Check Out These Romance Reader Events and Book Festivals Happening Across the Country!

Los Angeles Times Festival of Books

If you enjoy reading romantic fiction as much as I do, you could probably easily spend hours (or days) with your head buried in books, not speaking to a solitary soul. Writers of romance find themselves in a similar situation. Heads bent over the computer and fingers flying across the keys. Our heads buried in novels and craft books as much as our schedules will allow.

Reading and writing can be very solitary activities. However, in the last few years, I’ve discovered the joy of getting out and meeting other readers and writers–my tribe.

If you’re an avid reader of romance, they’re probably your tribe, too. A little more than a week ago I had the privilege of leading off a panel discussion on writing contemporary romance. The other participating authors? Talented and prolific authors Samantha Chase and Marquita Valentine. Yep, still pinching myself that I got to be counted with these two fabulous authors.

During the next month and beyond I’ll also be participating in several more reader events, listed below:

  • Celebrating Our Local Stars of Romance Fiction at the Barnes & Noble in Cary, North Carolina on Friday, April 21st at 7 PM
  • Los Angeles Times Festival of Books at the USC University Park Campus on April 22-23. I’m a panelist in the Romance: I’m Too Sexy for This Book conversation.
  • RT Booklovers Convention in Atlanta, Georgia from May 2-7
  • Make a Date with Harlequin Booksigning (at RT) on Thursday, May 4th at 8:30 – 9:45 AM
  • North Carolina Romance Writers Festival on May 28th from 2-5 PM
  • Lights! Camera! Action! Girls Night Out on August 25th 6 – 10 PM
  • Lights! Camera! Action! Arts Festival on August 26th 10 – 5 PM
  • Believable Characters / Secondary Characters Writers Workshop on October 14th 9 AM to 4PM — tentative date & time, Washington, NC

I’m thrilled to be participating in these events. In addition to booksignings there will be lively discussions about the romance genre and its impact on us as readers. So if you’re local to (or an easy drive from) one of these events, I hope you’ll come out and join us.

Join us on Friday, April 21st in Cary, NC to celebrate our wealth of local romance authors!

One more thing…

Thank you if you read Playing with Desire, Playing by the Rules or Baby Be Mine and were kind enough to leave a review. If you’ve enjoyed any of these stories and haven’t already, I’d love it if you’d leave an honest review on Amazon, Goodreads, Barnes & Noble, iTunes or Harlequin. This helps other readers find them, too.

One last thing…

Next month I’ll be running my second quarter giveaway, and it’s going to be a good one, so stay tuned for that email in the coming weeks!

Happy Reading!

Connecting with My Tribe of Fellow Writers and Readers

Writing is the perfect job for an introvert. Even one like me who often masquerades as an extrovert. Still, it is beneficial to get out in the world, meet new people, travel to new places and enjoy new experiences. All of which provide ideas for new stories.

Then, of course, there is the pure joy of connecting with your tribe–fellow writers and readers. Last weekend, I had the chance to do just that courtesy of Women and Words Impacting the Community–a fabulous reader event put on by Read You Later’s Lasheera Lee.

There were too many fabulous authors in attendance to name them all. However, the list of authors included fellow Kimani authors Nicki Night, Deborah Mello, Cheris Hodges and Kianna Alexander; Christian authors Jacquelin Thomas, Summer Kinnard, Cassandra Durham and Michelle Stimpson; Samantha Chase and historical authors Katharine Ashe and Beverly Jenkins.

I got to meet authors I’ve been a big fan of and was dying to meet like Beverly Jenkins (who I sat next to at Girls Night) and Deborah Mello. I also got to reconnect with some of my favorite authors like Kianna Alexander, Cheris Hodges, Iris Bolling, Summer Kinnard and Katharine Ashe. I had the privilege of meeting some wonderful readers and aspiring authors who I look forward to connecting with again.

If you missed this fabulous event, don’t worry, this was the sixth event Lasheera has done and she plans to do another. Connect with her on Facebook for a heads up on the next event. It was an energizing event that reminded me why the community of readers and writers are my people.

Happy reading,

PS: I know it looks like I took Ms. Bev hostage and forced her to take that picture, but I didn’t. I swear! (Okay, kinda sorta, but she was a great sport about it.)
